Western Clydesdales Shine at the 2024 QRL Awards

The Western Clydesdales were strongly represented and celebrated for their outstanding achievements at the 2024 Queensland Rugby League (QRL) Awards, held on Friday 20th September at Brisbane City Hall. The event, which recognizes excellence across community rugby league, statewide competitions and representative programs, saw multiple Clydesdales stars and nominees take centre stage.

 

Tara Reinke Wins Prestigious Steph Hancock Medal

In a monumental achievement for the Western Clydesdales, hard-working lock forward Tara Reinke was awarded the Steph Hancock Medal for her incredible performances in the BMD Premiership. Reinke’s consistent excellence across the season, polling points in five matches, earned her the title of best and fairest in the competition, cementing her place as one of the standout players in 2024.

Reinke's recognition as the best player in the competition capped off a memorable year for the Clydesdale who also saw significant representation in the BMD Premiership Team of the Year.

 

 

Clydesdales Players in BMD Premiership Team of the Year

The Clydesdales' impact was further highlighted with three players being named in the BMD Premiership Team of the Year:

  • Georgia Sim (Wing)
  • Leianne Tufuga (Centre)
  • Tara Reinke (Lock)

These selections underscore the Clydesdales’ strong presence in the women's game and reflect the hard work and dedication shown by the players throughout the season. Sim’s inclusion was particularly special, as she was also nominated for BMD Premiership Rookie of the Year, showcasing her meteoric rise within the competition and her recent NRLW debut for the Gold Coast Titans.

       

 
Additional Nominees Represent Western Clydesdales

The Western Clydesdales' success at the awards wasn't limited to individual accolades. Mitchell Sargent, the Clydesdales’ BMD Premiership coach, was a nominee for the BMD Premiership Coach of the Year, having guided the team to the Semi-Finals.

In the men's competition, Fletcher Prendergast was also a standout nominee, competing for the Mal Meninga Cup Player of the Year award, further solidifying the depth of talent emerging from the club.
