The 2022 Hastings Deering Colts season was a challenging one for the Western Clydesdales.
Our under 21s squad went into the season optimistic but knowing we lacked size up front and experience to compete with some of the stronger teams.
That meant we needed to rely on mobility, however, there is no substitute for size unfortunately.
The results didn’t go our way early in the season and the losses mounted. This resulted in some players withdrawing from the squad and put pressure on our depth.
The lowlight of the season was definitely when we had to forfeit to Central Queensland in round 13 as COVID, injuries and other unavailability decimated our squad.
Our core group of players continued to work though and were rewarded with a drought-breaking win over Burleigh in the penultimate round.
With Burleigh chasing a spot in the top eight, we recorded a 37-34 win over the Bears at Glenholme Park with the help of some loan players from Redcliffe.
This result was just reward for effort throughout a tough season.
