The Western Mustangs will play out of Clive Berghofer Stadium as the club looks to earn a place in the Intrust Super Cup.
The Mustangs have committed to play games at the high class Toowoomba venue starting with the 2020 Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup and Hastings Deering Colts home games.
The club hopes the move to play out of the traditional home of rugby league in the area will help strengthen its bid for inclusion in the ISC from 2021.
Clive Berghofer Stadium is an NRL-quality venue and has hosted top-flight trials and a regular season match in 2018.
“We’re excited about the Western Mustangs playing out of Clive Berghofer Stadium as it’s the home of footy in the region,” Mustangs Chairman Frank Martin said.
“Some of the greatest players to come out of our region have played there before, so it will inspire our players getting the chance to run out on to the same field.
“We want to play in the Intrust Super Cup and to do that you need a quality home ground. Clive Berghofer Stadium is a great place to play and watch footy, so we think playing there will boost our chances of ISC admission.
“We’re keen to work with officials from Clive Berghofer Stadium to utilise the great venue to help build the Mustangs into a strong ISC club.”
The decision sees the Mustangs move away from Gold Park, the club’s previous home for a decade.
The Mustangs will also change training venue as the club now prepares out of Glenholme Park.
The Glenholme Park Sports and Community Hub committee runs the venue, which the Mustangs under 18s and under 20s squads will use for on-field training during the 2020 season.
