The Western Clydesdales have appointed coaches for all pathways teams ahead of a watershed 2023 season.

The coaching line-up features an exciting group of quality mentors, who will guide the club’s squads next season.

Jason Alchin was appointed Hostplus Cup Head Coach in June for the Clydesdales’ return to the Hostplus Cup, and he will oversee coaching and development activities for 2023.

Here is the Western Clydesdales coaching appointments for 2023:

  • U18 Meninga Cup: Paul Boase
  • U16 Connell Cup: Nathan (Ned) Murphy

Colts Coach Justin McKellar is well-known in rugby league on the Darling Downs thanks to his glittering local playing career, and coaching success with the Highfields Eagles.

After two successful seasons in charge of our Under 19 Women’s squad, Russell Jones is back as Coach for the 2023 season.

Paul Boase has been appointed as Mal Meninga Cup Coach with a curriculum vitae featuring previous experience in the under 18s competition as well as time as a Hostplus Cup Assistant Coach.

Nathan (Ned) Murphy will also share his knowledge of the game with the club’s under 16s players as Cyril Connell Challenge Coach.

Western Clydesdales Chairman Tony Coonan is thrilled with the club’s coaching appointments.

“I’m really excited about the coaches we have for 2023 right across the board,” he said.

“Next season is a massive one for the club as we return to the HostPlus Cup and complete that elite pathway for young players across the south-west.

“It’s great to have so many locals part of our coaching staff and I can’t wait for pre-season to start later in the year.”
